Sign Up for an Instructor Workshop through SAS
This semester, Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is offering two types of workshops for instructors. Each of these will be offered several times throughout the semester but can also be presented to departments upon request.
Understanding Accommodations: Legal Foundations and Practical Guidance for Instructors
This session is designed to help instructors understand their responsibilities when it comes to student accommodations. The presentation covers the legal foundations of disability accommodations in higher education, explains how accommodations are approved, and outlines the instructor’s role in implementing them. Through real-world examples, participants will gain insight into how SAS evaluates requests, what to do if a student asks for something unexpected, and how to respond when accommodations intersect with course requirements. The session also addresses common concerns like fairness, course integrity, and boundaries and equips instructors with practical tips and campus resources. Whether you're unsure what’s expected or want to better support your students while maintaining academic rigor, this session offers clear guidance and collaborative solutions.
Dates:
- August 19th, 10:00 am -11:30 am

Making Accommodations Work: Practical Strategies for Implementation
SAS invites instructors to a practical, instructor-focused training on implementing accommodations in the classroom. This session goes beyond the basics of compliance to offer strategies for reviewing accommodation letters, planning effective implementation with students, and using the Accommodate system efficiently. Participants will learn how to approach common accommodations like flexible attendance, extended time, and access to materials in a way that works for both the student and the course. The training also emphasizes how to document plans, maintain appropriate boundaries, and collaborate with students while preserving academic expectations. Whether you're new to working with accommodations or looking for a refresher, this session offers real-world examples, tools, and guidance to help make the process more manageable and supportive.
